Yagi Gains World Cup Place at Tornio

Only three years ago it seemed like it was a nigh on impossible dream that the UK would have a nordic skier who was skiing at world cup level. Well things have changed a lot recently with club member Alex Standen joining that elite group which now contains three club members.

Alex got under the magic 120 points, scoring 111.17 at Tornio, Finland. This wasn’t the only good news from this competition. Andrew Musgrave came at a jaw dropping 14th place (61.74 FIS Points) and Andrew Young took first place in the U18 category (96.59 points).

Other club members Callum Smith, William Newman and PJ Baron (who is now skiing for Ireland) are also edging closer to the 120 point barrier with 135, 156 and 169 FIS points respectively.

Sarah Young also clocked up 170 points which isn’t a mean acheivement considering she was persuing her studies at university at the same time.

I’m sure all club members will want to jump up and down, shout and toast the acheivements of the BritNordic ski team which have crowned and impressive season!

Just to add that Callum Smith did go under the 120 the day after this. So the club now has 4 members qualified for World Cup (Britain is only allowed to start 2 people so there will be some delay in getting all of them to the World Cup Start line)

For the women Sarah’s best race was only 9sec from qualifying.
